Twila Mae (Morgan) Owen
1927-2017
Twila Mae (Morgan) Owen was born on June 24, 1927 and died on September 5, 2017 at the age of 90. She was the daughter of Ed and Emma Morgan of Amity.
She was a 1946 graduate of Amity High School and proud of the fact that she was the first in her family to accomplish this goal. She also enjoyed playing volleyball and lettered all 4 years.
February 25, 1947 she married Herschel Owen in Maysville. To this union 6 children were born. They moved to their farm east of Maysville in 1950 and Twila was a stay at home mom and housewife until 1965 when she started working at Sunset Nursing Home. She worked as a cook and Dietary Supervisor for 27 years, retiring in 1992. After her retirement she served on the Hostess Committee at the First Baptist Church. She was also known as the “Cookie Lady” for Wednesday after school activities and served as the church janitor for many years. Twila loved to cook and if you went to visit in her house she always tried to feed you before you left. She also enjoyed attending the numerous events her children and grandchildren participated in. She seldom missed a sporting event and even played softball herself for many years.
Twila is survived by their 6 children and their spouses; Herschel B (Donna) Owen, Barbara (Darrel Starling) Owen, Eldon (Desiree) Owen, Chet (Barbara) Owen, Jolene Owen, and Darlene (Dennis) Conover, 2 sisters Della Berry and LuEtta Morgan, 10 grandchildren, 6 great- grandchildren and her dog, Barney.
She is preceded in death by her husband Herschel, daughters-in-law Marva Owen and Sherry Owen. Her parents Ed and Emma Morgan, 2 brothers, Donald Morgan and Clay Morgan, 5 sisters Viola Jolly, Lucille Swartz, Maxine Rhoad, Zola McDonald and Emmaline Dabler.
