William Dowd
1956-2021
Marianna, Arkansas…. William Lyle Dowd, age 65, was born April 23, 1956, in Ottumwa, IA to James Ralph and Betty Berniece (Todd) Dowd. He went to be with his Heavenly Father on October 11, 2021, following a short illness.
William and Janice Lillian (Wright) Dowd were united in marriage on June 22, 1974, in Iowa and soon their family grew to include daughter Angela and son Bradley. William was an Assemblies of God minister for more than 30 years and was currently serving as the pastor of First Assembly of God in Marianna, Arkansas. He loved the Lord and served with his entire heart and previously pastored churches in Missouri and Indiana. He never hesitated to share God’s love with anyone he met. William was the current Chairman of the Lee County (Arkansas) Republican Committee and was a great Patriot. Prior to becoming a minister, William was a police officer in Iowa, serving both the Eddyville and Jesup police departments. William enjoyed hunting and fishing but loved spending time with his family most of all. He was a jack-of-all-trades and an experienced handyman, doing construction work and repairs for himself and many of the churches and congregations where he pastored.
He is preceded in death by both parents, Jim and Betty Dowd; two brothers, Roger and Jim; one sister-in-law, Debra (Jim) Dowd; and one nephew, Andrew Randolph.
Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Jan; his children Angela Dowd (Blue Eye, MO) and Bradley (Samantha) Dowd (Jamesport, MO); sister, Arlene Dowd (Oskaloosa, IA); sister-in-law, Carolyn Dowd (Euless, TX); seven grandchildren, RJ, Jaylen, Ashton, Dakota, Jonathan, Landon, and Justin; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Will became my “little” brother when I married into the Dowd family in 1972. But he also became a brother in the Lord through ministry and his heart for God’s Kingdom. He was passionate about life; passionate about his family; passionate about the people he ministered to. I have the greatest memories of our last family event – getting to sing together as a family on Mothers’ Day weekend at the church in Cainsville, MO just weeks before we lost Roger. Roger, Jim, Deb, Mom, and now Will……Heaven is sure sounding sweeter all the time!
We will miss you pastor dowd you have been a good former Associate pastor to our church, we will miss you lots and I will be praying for family.

My sweet cousin, Will…
“Billy” to us. Just knowing he’s moved to Heaven makes Earth a more lonely place. However, it’s just for a while until we have the biggest family imaginable! He was tender-hearted, kind, eager to serve the Lord and fellow-minister/pastor in the Assemblies of God.
How I will miss your faithfulness to keeping in touch and your love for not just your own immediate family but so many others. I’m so glad you are living in and receiving your reward. Well done…
Me and family send our sincere condolences and prayers to the Dowd Family, and our church family. Rev. William L. Dowd was my Senior Pastor at the First Assembly of God in Marianna, Arkansas where me and my family attend. Pastor Dowd had a heart for our church and community and to see lost souls come to the Saving Knowledge of Jesus Christ . He was my mentor, in which the Lord used him in which I am so thankful for. For he was like a third grandfather to me we was always doing something together. I will always love him, and I know we will get to see you soon in Heaven.
