Stewartsville……Leah Newman Divelbiss Watkins, age 102, went home to be with Jesus, March 26, 2016,in her home at Stewartsville, MO. Leah was born July 6, 1913 at Plattsburgh, to Lee and Elvira (Ella) Jane Divelbliss. She only went to 6th grade in a one room school house. Growing up she helped her father in the fields and loved the outdoors. Her family was poor and went through many hard times. She married Samuel David Watkins Nov. 27, 1938. He preceded her in death Nov. 30, 2013.
Leah received the Lord and was saved at a tent meeting when she was young. Leah and Sam both knew the Lord when they were married and raised their children in church. Leah was always a homemaker and house wife. She was a generous person, always there when someone needed a helping hand. Leah moved to Stewartsville when she married and they settled in the house her husband built for them. At one time they had a wonderful house church in their home and her mother pastored. Evangelistic Temple was her church for 65 years.
She always answered the phone Praise the Lord instead of hello.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Elvira Jane Divelbiss, infant brothers, Silas Udel and one stillborn, 2 sisters Golda and Frances and son-in-law James Bannister.
Survivors are 3 children, Weldon (Linda) Watkins, Myvalon Haney and Xenia Bannister,1 brother Fred Divelbiss, 2 sisters Roxy German and Lolita Dealy, 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
Her children rise up and call her blessed.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Turner Family Funeral Home of Stewartsville with burial following in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation: 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Online condolences: www.turnerfamilyfuneral.com
