1930-2016
Maysville……Emma Lee Newkirk, 85, was born November 7, 1930 to Edwin Reed and Ulo Uvilla (King) Hall and passed away May 19, 2016.
Emma was united in marriage to Marcus Eugene Newkirk on November 9, 1956. Together they raised 4 children: William Nathaniel (Jamie) Guess, Billings, MO, Robert Lee (Pat) Guess, Fond-du-lac, WI; Marcia Jean (Harry) Hopper, Oak Grove , MO; and Alice Marie (Bruce) McKee, Maysville, MO all who survive her.
Emma taught in the Rushville Rural School District and the 1 room school at Jamesport for a couple of years. Emma and Gene owned and operated Gene’s Photo Shop for 36 years and Farmer Printing Co. from 1969 to present. She was an active member of the community, being involved in Maysville Convention and Visitors Bureau, DeKalb County Historical Society and currently was on the Maysville County Harvest Committee. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Maysville, and attended the Fairport Baptist Church. She and Gene helped with Camp Quality for several years and were active with the local horseshoe pitchers club and traveled to tournaments all over the state.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers: Harold Richard (Dick) Hall, William Henry Hall, 4 sisters: Edwina Wright, Elsie Mae Taylor, an infant Othelia Gertrude, and Lina Rodgers.

Emma was an active partner with Gene in both of their businesses. She worked along side him daily. Emma had a passion for making quilt tops, many of which she shared with family and the community. She donated several to Maysville Country Harvest over the years to be used as fundraisers for the organization.
She was a wealth of information as she continued keeping obituaries of the local people as well as family and friends. She could easily help someone research information on their family.

Maysville has lost a wonderful lady – I have had great pleasure working with Emma on several committees and has touched my life in many of different ways. I am sorry I can not be there – but Emma is telling me I understand you can’t always do what you want to do just think about me – so Emma I am thinking about you now and for the years to come!!! We will miss you in more ways than you may ever know – we know you will be watching over us during Country Harvest Events and saying keep up the good job as we will be thinking of you!!! Thinking of your family in the days and weeks to come as they move forward.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the Newkirk family. Nothing I can say can ease your sorrow. But please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers at this time.
Rest in Peace Emmy! You were such a wonderful blessing to the Maysville & surrounding communities. The Amity Files Family….
