Jerald Anne (Smith) Minasy was born on Sept. ll, 1950 in Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, Calif. and died on July 3, 2016 in Lisbon, Portugal while on a trip there. Her parents were LCDR Richard E. Smith, USN and Virginia Smith.
     “Dick” Smith of Fairport was a career naval officer and Jeri grew up in Calif., Kansas, Virginia, the Philippines and Florida, places where her father was stationed, which led to a lifelong love of travel. From her mother Virginia she inherited a great love of reading and cats.
Jeri graduated from high school in Virginia Beach, Va. and attended Madison College. Then her desire to travel led to a 20 year career as a flight attendant  with Pan American Airways during the 70’s and 80’s. She flew to dozens of countries and had many exciting experiences while with the airline. After Pan Am shut down in 1991 she worked for Delta until her retirement.
     Jeri was stunningly beautiful with a magnetic personality. In addition to travel she was an expert genealogist, avid reader and cat lover. She was married to Keith Minasy for 30 years and had lived in Boca Raton Florida for the last several years. She was a former registrar and member of DAR.Recently Jeri had traveled to Nepal, and with her sister Charlene to her favorite country, England, and also to Turkey.
     Jeri is survived by her husband Keith Minasy of Boca Raton, sister Charlene(Smith) Finiello (John) of Albuquerque NM, nieces Cecilia Castillo and Andrea Mills, nephew James Finiello, grandniece Emily Castillo and several other grandnieces and nephews, all of Albuquerque, cousins Marilyn, Leroy and John Haley of Maysville, and her two beloved cats Max and Mr.Pie. She was predeceased by her parents LCDR Richard Estep Smith and Virginia Smith, grandparents Will and Iva (Estep) Smith of Fairport and other aunts, uncles and cousins of the area as well as by her favorite cat, Charlie.
   “I cannot live without books and cats.”

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2015 at Turner Family Funeral Home of Maysville with burial following at Fairport Cemetery.  Online condolences:  www.turnerfamilyfuneral.com

    It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of our Lighthouse Point, FL DAR chapter member Jeri. She was a vibrant person with a radiant smile and bubbly personality. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Our deepest condolences to her family.

    I discovered my delightful second cousin in August, 2013 after doing genealogy work on our common Goodknecht family in Oregon. Our shared interest in travel and family ancestry kept us connected by phone and email. I am grateful for having the opportunity to know her, if only for a short time.

    Jeri, you are gone too soon. We miss you.

    Jeri’s boundless energy and zest for travel and life in general remain an inspiration to those of us that sit behind a desk each day. May we all learn to live as she did, relishing each day and the wonderful experiences they bring, always thirsting for knowledge and the next adventure.
