1943-2021
Kansas City, Missouri…. James L. Thornton, 77, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away 0n Saturday, June 19, 2021 at St. Joseph Hospital.
Funeral Service will be held at the Peace Lutheran Church 8240 Blue Ridge Blvd. Kansas City, MO 64138 on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Rolf officiating.
Christian burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Thornton Cemetery, Clarksdale, Mo.
Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 9:00-11:00 a.m.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Turner Family Funeral Home of Stewartsville, Mo
Jim was born in St. Joseph, Mo. to James N. and Mary K.(Dailey) Thornton on July 26, 1943.
He graduated from Central High School KC in 1961.
On December 2, 1969, James and Elisabeth (Kluepfel) were united in holy matrimony in Altfeld, Germany.
Jim served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era.
He was a chef, working in the restaurant business for many years.
Jim loved walking in Nature with his beloved wife, and constant Canine companion.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 52 years, Elisabeth, children Jimmy (Dena) Thornton, Barbara Kluepfel, Christine Kluepfel, Kathleen Thornton, Elaine (Jon) Rose, Daniel Thornton, brother, Robert (Debbie) Thornton, Sister, Karen Lane, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, a host of other relatives, and a multitude of friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Freddy, Betty, Rita, and Doris.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made in Jim’s honor to The American Cancer Society in care of Turner Family Funeral Home, Box 350, Maysville,Mo. 64469

Lisa, I am so sorry for your loss. I know he had been sick a long time. I am sorry I couldn’t make it to the service. I was having foot surgery at the same time. You and your family were in my thoughts and prayers. I feel for you & take care
